At halftime of the Pac-10 Championship game, one announcer said that the team loses would not make the NCCA Tournament. Similarly, seconds before the NCAA Tournament parings were released, a CBS studio analyst said that Pac-10 regular season champs California was definitely out. Huh?
I can understand saying that about then 23-9 Washington, who was solidly on the bubble (but ended with a #11 seed). But Cal? They were #16 in RPI. Under no circumstances would they be left out of the tournament. They ended up with an 8 seed, deservedly so.
The Pac-10 had an off year. But analysts are off their rockers.
