OK sports fans…

Who won the AL Rookie of the Year in 1989.

Answer after the jump.

If you said Ken Griffey Jr., you would be wrong. He finished 3rd.

Gregg Olson, closer for the Baltimore Orioles, won ROY in 1989. He had 27 saves and had 97% of the 1st place votes for Rookie of Year. Tom Gordon was second.

Why didn’t Jr. win? The old injury bug. Griffey slipped in the shower and broke a bone in his hand in late July. He ended that year with 16 home runs and 16 stolen bases.

Thanks Frank for the question.
